The art of flamenco

This is something very difficult to define so that a person can understand it in all its greatness. We will begin by saying that it is a dance of Andalusian origin, but it is an art that enters through the eyes and ears and reaches the heart.

It is fire, it is beauty, it is spontaneous choreography, neither an Argentine tango, nor a Brazilian samba, nor a Venezuelan joropo, nor a rock and roll, nor a French can-can, nor a Dominican merengue, could be compared to it; at most a paso doble, but it still falls short.

Flamenco is expressed in a couple of man and woman, as it can also be interpreted by a dancer alone. It is accompanied by guitar and the costumes used for this type of dance are spectacular. In order to understand what we want to tell you, you would have to be present and judge for yourself.

It uses spontaneous movements, special shoes to heel to the beat, castanets and flowers on the head, lots and lots of panache, and a fan.

The performers, both musicians and dancers, can sing improvised or already known verses, but with a touch of joy combined with sadness and sometimes with a lot of drama in their lyrics with its origin dating back to the early 1900s.

True flamenco is a mixture of the gypsies with the Jews and the Arabs. But it is really unique.

What is a flamenco "tablao"?

tablao flamenco

Generally, a flamenco tablao is a place where people gather to eat, drink, and watch this type of show. Sometimes people from the audience join in the dancing, because they can’t contain their desire to participate in such exciting and beautiful action.

It is also called tablao or tablado, the stage where the actors are usually mounted, in many cases they improvise and the spectators invite them to get on their own tables where they are tasting their tapas or just enjoying a drink.

As if it were a belly dance, its Arabic origin, but combined with other cultures, including the Christian one, is not envalde.

Today, flamenco is known worldwide, but going to Spain and not visiting a flamenco tablao is like missing part of the ticket, or for a bullfighter going to a bullfight and blocking his eyes and ears.

The harmony of flamenco singing and dancing is like poetry or like an opera, you feel it, your hair stands on end, tears come to your eyes and above all your blood boils.
