MALA SOMBRA: THE RADIANT ELIXIR OF ANDALUSIA
Moscatel de Alejandría | Orange wine with bitter Seville orange peel
“The strangest wine I’ve made in my life,” in Antonio Mérida’s own words.
Inspired by orange wine but made entirely his way, Mala Sombra combines Moscatel skins with bitter Seville orange peel to create a deeply original Andalusian bottle with colour, tannin and remarkable intensity.
The story
Orange wines are white wines fermented with their grape skins, gaining colour, tannin and a more intense presence in the glass. Antonio Mérida took that idea and rebuilt it around one of Andalucía’s most emblematic grapes: Moscatel de Alejandría.
He harvests the fruit at its precise point of sugar ripeness, then macerates it with its skins and bitter Seville orange peel. The result is Mala Sombra: exclusive, unmistakably local and, in Antonio’s own words, “the strangest wine I’ve made in my life.”
Tasting notes
Aromatic Moscatel de Alejandría gains the colour, tannin and intensity of skin contact, while bitter Seville orange peel gives the wine its singular character. Bold, distinctive and unlike a conventional white.
